Income Tax Payment with Credit Card

Banks offer different benefits to its customers in order to encourage a prompt income tax payment. Few banks offer easy payment plans with reduced interest rates when you pay your tax with the bank’s credit card on the ByrHASiL portal.

Online Portal for Tax Payments

The Inland Revenue Board (IRB), together with Maybank, offers an online portal for tax payments known as the ByrHASiL portal. Use this portal to pay your tax with any Visa, Mastercard or American Express credit/debit card. An administration fee of 0.8% is applicable when you pay tax using your credit card.

Maybank credit cardholders have an exclusive deal where you can pay the income tax under EzyPay scheme. Choose a tenure of 6 or 12 months to pay your taxes at an administrative charge of 1.25% and 2.05%, respectively. This EzyPay scheme is applicable on a minimum tax payment of RM1,000 and a maximum of RM500,000.

In case of payment using an AmBank credit card, register yourself with the bank by sending an email or SMS to get the tax amount paid on the portal converted into AmFlexi-Pay Plan. Any tenure from 6 to 24 months can be chosen. The interest rate on this plan ranges from 0% p.a.-6% p.a.

Payment Procedure on the ByrHASiL Portal

The Payment Via Credit Card page on the portal has three sections—identification information, payment information and payment approval. Enter identification information such as your identification type and identification number in the first section. Click on Submit. This mode can be used by individuals and sole-proprietors.

In the second section, provide details on payment type, assessment year, payable tax amount and the type of credit card. On submitting the second section, you will be asked to confirm the information entered so you can proceed to pay.

Other Modes of Payment

Online Banking Transfer the tax amount to Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri (LHDN) similar to any online funds transfer through your online banking account. Not all banks offer this facility. Check the bank’s website to verify if your bank offers this facility before you transfer the money.
ATM Few banks offer you the facility to pay your taxes at an Automated Teller Machine (ATM). Ensure you have an account with one of these banks to speed up the transfer process.
Cheque Deposit Machines Enter the correct details on a cheque and drop it at a cheque deposit machine. Keep in mind that usually a processing fee of RM0.50 for each cheque will be applicable.

Tax payments has become convenient and easy with card payments. Opt for this mode if you possess a credit card. If you do not have a card, then choose another payment method that suits your circumstances. At the same time, be cautious about online fraud when using the online payment methods.
