    • Hong Leong’s net profit slipped by 0.2%

      The net profit of Hong Leong slipped by 0.2% to RM386.19 million. The revenue or the first quarter rose to RM1.18 billion. The minority interest was higher at RM197.17 million.       Hong Leong Bank lowered the interest rate by 25 basis point. The bank’s base rate will be reduced to 3.69% from 3.94% and the base lending rate will be reduced to 6.70% from 6.95%. The Islamic base rate will be revised to 3.69% from 3.94% and the Islamic financing rate will be lowered to 6.70% from 6.95%. The decision to lower the interest rate is followed by the Bank Negara’s decision to reduce the overnight policy rate. The rates have been lowered to assist the existing and potential customers with the borrowing cost. This in turn will support the government’s effort to ensure that the domestic economy grows steadily amidst the international uncertainties.

    • Third Quarter Earnings of Hong Leong Bank register at RM 497.8 Million

      Hong Leong posted the earnings of its third quarter which ended on March 31 2016 and recorded an earnings of RM 497.8 Million. This earning was lower than the previous year’s earnings which was registered at RM 519.16 Million.

      The fall in earnings can be attributed to an increase in losses due to impairments, reduction in writer backs and an overall increase in operating expenses. The allowance for impairment losses on loans was higher and stood at RM 26.6 Million while the operating expenses rose to RM 21.7 Million.

      Although there was increase in operating costs, it was mitigated with an increase in Net Income which stood at RM 14.1 Million. The profits prior to tax stood at RM 199.8 Million as compared to the pre-tax profit of RM 269.8 Million recorded one year ago.

    • HLIB Expects steady contribution to growth of group

      Hong Leong Islamic Bank Bhd (HLIB), predicts its contribution to the group's total growth to be maintained between 15% and 18% in the current year despite the challenging economic conditions.

      Chief executive officer and managing director Raja Teh Maimunah Raja Abdul Aziz said that the projection was based on the perspective of profit and loss.

      "The (banking) industry is facing a difficult year, whereby compressing profit margins are clearly pressuring the bottom line," she added in a statement at a launch event in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.
