News About Visa Debit Cards in Malaysia

  • Visa and PLUS to Make Toll Payments a Smooth Ride

Visa along with PLUS Malaysia Bhd is set to change the nature of how toll payments are made in Malaysia. Through a pilot programme called ‘PLUS RFID’ (radio frequency identification), Visa and PLUS intend to modernise the payment structure at all toll booths in the country.

The pilot stage of this programme will roll at the Penang Bridge, Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE) and Jitra toll plazas from 15 December 2018. Visa will share its technological proficiency and knowledge of contactless digital payments for functioning of this programme.

It a statement released recently, Visa informed that it is an open payment technology that allows the Malaysian drivers to pay the toll charges with their credit or debit cards. A ‘PLUS RFID tag’ will be given free of cost to a driver and it is directly linked to his debit or credit card account. The programme is intended to smooth out the traffic at the tolls and minimise the delay caused when there is insufficient balance or top-up failure on your card.

To participate, a cardholder requires to add his Visa credit or debit card as a primary payment method to make the transactions. In the future, international drivers passing through Malaysia can also be able to use their Visa cards to pay for the tolls.
